The Mexico Food Pantry will not be providing Thanksgiving baskets to our clients this year as we have in the past.
In the past the Food Pantry has provided the ingredients for a large meal for our clients just before Thanksgiving. It has been well-received for many years. Unfortunately economic factors have forced us to cancel Thanksgiving baskets this year.
Helping those in need is the mission of the Food Pantry. Our Thanksgiving baskets, however, provide just a few meals and cost a great deal of money to furnish. The money we would spend on Thanksgiving baskets can run our normal pantry for nearly six months and do far more good for our clients.
Our clients were notified beginning in August that we would not be offering Thanksgiving baskets this year and told to plan accordingly.
A couple from a local church is planning to serve Thanksgiving dinner for about 30 people at our site, though we are not participating. For more information, contact 315-963-2216.
